Great performace, awesome build quality.

Date:September 2, 2012
"I was looking for a decent BBQ to fit my small condo balcony, that didn't look like a cheap toy, or a relic from the 70's. I saw this online and expected typically big box store junk, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the model in the store. Even though it had the typical "Built by someone that doesn't care." loose screws poorly aligned quality to it. I could see through this, and decided to take one out the door, and assemble it properly with care.
Coleman really packs this product tight and beautifully. The box comes apart by just cutting the straps, and lifting the giant upper section off like a novelty XMAS gift you see on TV.
The lid is on the BBQ double layered, and very heavy with super solid cast aluminum sides. The entire upper assembly is put together, and all that is required is building the base, and assembling the side shelves. The base is ultra solid, and no nuts are required. All the attachment points are a nut, in a machined hole in the steel panels, a very nice touch. The base door is super solid, and heavy. It also has hooks built right into the door for your grilling tools. Nice attention to detail. When your propane tank is installed, the unite feels substantial. The casters are buttery smooth and really nice.
One tip the even heat plate supports are already inside the BBQ. I looked for them for 10 minutes thinking they were in the packing, as the manual suggests they are separate like the rest of the parts.
Installing the shelves takes a bit of fiddling, but once you figure one side out (the manual is a little vague) the other side takes mere minutes. After all was said and done, I built it in about 90 minutes, with every single bolt, washer and nut accounted for and used. No bolts cross threaded, and I easily put it together alone, not with the suggested three people the manual suggests.
Cooking performance is awesome. I don't think a lot of people reviewing this grill understand that any more than 30,000 btu's in a grill this size, would make this thing hells furnace. Plus I would hate to come over for a steak that is cooked like shoe leather at their home. I have easily got the grill to 700 C heating it up, and it only takes a minute or two to get to a reasonable cooking temperature. The cast iron grates make for beautiful grill marks, and a nice authentic cooking experience.
It has no side burner, which seems to be a staple on most stainless BBQ's nowadays. But I can never recall ever, seeing someone use one of those. They are a novelty in my opinion, like nipples on men. Also, one would be unusable with the folding side shelves, so you can't knock it for that.
I am very pleased with my purchase, and have already recommended it to a few people in my building, 2 of which bought one. This is the best compact BBQ you will find under $500. I looked at everything out there, and this was hands down the winner for a very niche product.

Very nice barbeque

Date:June 22, 2012
"I really like this barbeque. Nice and solid - seems to be a quality unit.
Assembly was pretty complicated, but the fasteners are separated and labeled in a blister pack, so picking the proper ones at the proper time was a piece of cake. Don't get scared off by the step that says it requires 3 people - I did it alone, and I'm WAY out of shape and pushing 60! I picked up the firebox/lid, set it on the base and figured I must have done something wrong - it was too easy!
Seems to have more than enough heat for me too - did steaks and hamburgers at half power, no problem.
Definitely recommend it.

Very nicely put together

Date:May 24, 2012
"So far I am very happy with this unit It took 90 minutes to assemble and so far seams to work nicely. The only improvement I would do to it is to have a handle installed on the outer side of the lid as this unit throws a lot of heat when you open it at high heat and can singe the hairs on the back side of your arm. This is however not a big deal if you are handy enough to drill a small hole in the side of the lid and install an after market handle as I am going to do ."

Great BBQ

Date:April 23, 2012
"I was looking for a BBQ to fit my small apartment patio. Found this beauty and it fits nicely. It's only about 30 inches wide when sides are folded down, so it makes for a easy storage when not in use. Grill size is still good even though the smaller BBQ. Big enough to fit 4 to 6 nice size steaks.
Good quality porcelain coated cast iron grills and Even Heat technology makes grilling a breeze. Just make sure to read the instructions and season those grills to keep them in good condition.
Assembling the BBQ took me about 2 hours. I bought the BBQ cover id #85-3270-6 to go with it. Fits nicely and covers the BBQ sides folded down.
I recommend this grill if you have limited space and looking for a good quality BBQ."

"Just bought this bbq today on sale. only took 90 minutes to easily assemble, the instructions were perfectly clear and precise, they must have improved them since the other reviews were written in 2011, because this was the simplest bbq I ever assembled, everything seems nice and sturdy and made of quality materials can't wait to try it out (raining here today)"

Happy owner here

Date:April 11, 2012
"We needed a small BBQ to fit on a rather small deck.. This one, with the fold-down sides, takes little space. Cast iron grates are a plus, they make for good heat transfer. No hot or cool spots. It's quick,. starts effortlessly, cooks rapidly and evenly. Would easily cook enough burgers or steaks for 4 or 5 people at one go.
We had it assembled by CT. Saved the hassle mentioned by some other reviewers who assembled it themselves.
One drawback is it has a lot of surfaces under the grates which need cleaning after each use. Solved that by coating the surfaces with foil. Will replace foil once a year. (We are occasional users.. about 12-16 times a year.) Leaves only the grates to clean. A wire brush does well, and we occasionally wash them in the sink. Brushing oil on grates before cooking really reduces the food stick problem.
Recommend getting the cloth cover for protection. Keeps the stainless steel body shining.
Perfect for those who want a smaller, fast, dependable even cooker with minimum cleaning(if you use the foil trick)."

had to replace the old one

Date:February 25, 2012
"Am 're-posting' as I mistakenly put my review under the natural gas model of this bbq:
"As I lack expertise in the kitchen, my barbeque is an essential. When the old one literally fell apart I went looking and was happy to recently purchase this one. Looks great, has a good sized cast iron grill, and has the InstaStart feature that I like. It also accommodated the 20 lb tank I already had. And it was on sale too!
I live in a highrise condo, so the space saving feature is great. Saves a lot of balcony space. It heats up quickly and after searing, grills a great steak.
I shopped around, and after reading reviews the only concern for me were the comments about the assembly, so I let CT do that for me! Worth the $50 I figured. Besides, I live in the 'free delivery zone'. All good. Thanks CT!"
Also found the perfect fitting cover made for this bbq, a heavy duty vinylMaster Chef product for under $25.

Some Problems after one Season - Needs Redesign

Date:October 10, 2011
"The size is perfect for the deck of a typical Toronto townhouse, where you do not need the extra side burner. The assembling instructions are not very good and I am a skilled technical person; size of figures are too small to see the order of bolts, washers type, etc. We were initially very happy with this grill but recently the left burner started given out a yellow uneven flame. I've disassembled the unit but I could not fix the problem I will try to see if Canadian Tire will fix it. Unfortunately, this is the only unit in the market of this size."

Good looking, bad quality

Date:August 25, 2011
"Perhaps I somehow stumbled on a bad batch of these... First one I bought, I was assembling the vertical metal panels that make up the base. They are attached to the metal base by 3 screws. The holes and screws didn't line up properly so I had to bend the metal panels. No big deal but I expected a little more quality then this. A few steps later, I was ready to hoist the burner box onto the assembled base. It was then I found out that the burner box was slightly warped either from poor QA in the manufacturing plant or from CT's own warehouse handling. The shipping box outside looked undamaged so i'm assuming Coleman's QA might not be the greatest. Anyhow, the bbq lid, when closed was not fully flush with the main body of the bbq - things didn't line up perfectly.
I returned the burner box assembly for a brand new one. This was was not warped like the last one but still, the lid was not flush with the main body when closed.
I also noticed some poor painting job / exterior finishing job in some parts.
Overall, I think it's a great looking unit. Some parts could be higher quality and as for the strange lid that doesn't sit flush with the body of the bbq, i'm quite dissapointed. Not like I spent a grand on a new bbq but I expected a bit more from a brand like Coleman.
I have not cooked on it yet but will post part 2 of the review up
Will post a picture of the lid situation in the 2nd review"

Coleman Even Heat Small Spaces BBQ

Date:August 8, 2011
"Good quality sturdy BBQ, great size for a small deck. It took 2 - 2:50 hours to assemble and at times I was puzzled by the instructions. However stopping and rereading and looking at the parts you do get there in the end. Whilst it advises three people to lift main body, my wife and I ( both pensioners) achieved this with no problems. Cooked our first steaks really well!"

Exactly what we needed!

Date:July 27, 2011
"We debated about purchasing this BBQ but we're so glad we did! As someone else stated, it was well packaged and took quite some time to get it out of the box and the pics on the instructions were dark, but my husband had no trouble putting this together on his own in a couple of hours.
It looks great and is just the right size for our small deck and small family. It's a very sturdy BBQ (but not heavy and is easy to move with the castor wheels) and looks nice too. I'm not sure why others are having trouble with the heat. We got fabulous grill marks on our steaks and today, I only had the gas 1/2 way up and it still hit 600C. I'd definitely recommend this to someone looking for a quality BBQ in a reduced size."

Solid Purchase for a Smaller Backyard

Date:July 26, 2011
"My wife and I stood in the store for a long time and mulled over whether we should get this BBQ or the only slightly more expensive larger model. We are glad we went with this one.
I don't know a single person who ever uses that side burner on a BBQ, as they are wildly inefficient, so it is not missed here. Fantastic that the side trays fold down to make this sleek model even smaller. This is a great looking, solidly built stainless steel BBQ that takes up a minimum of space. Perfect for a couple with a smaller backyard, and even served up burgers for six (9 very large patties) last night with no compromise.
Contrary to other reviews I have read, this BBQ heats up fast, cooks evenly, and generally works like a charm. Agreed that the pictures in the assembly manual are bunk, but all you have to remember is screw, then lock washer, then regular washer - and you'll be fine. Assembled in a very casual 2.5 hours.
Also, this unit swims in the CT recommended Master Chef BBQ cover, especially since you'll likely be storing it with the side trays folded down. We walked an aisle over and grabbed a MANTIS brand 'Large Outdoor Fireplace Cover', and despite being slightly long at the bottom, it's practically like it was designed for it. Look for the one that fits CTC# 085-1090-6.
Very satisfied with my purchase!"

Love It!

Date:June 25, 2011
"Picked this up on sale for 50 bucks off. I was waiting as my other BBQ was still working, but close to it's life.
It's very well built, very attractive and I like the fact that it doesn't have those big wheels that turn in on you after time.
One comment said it took 3 people to assemble. I did it myself. It does say in the book for 1 part to have 3 people, but I'm sure it's just for legal purposes. It's packed very good. It took me 20 minutes to unpack everything (taking my time) and 2 hours to put together (again, taking my time and reading each instruction carefully). I have to agree with one buyer that the assembly pictures are dark for the most part, but if you take your time, you can eventually figure it out from the picture. I would go to the Coleman site and look at the better assembly instructions if your really pressed and don't understand.
I ordered a cover from Home Hardware that should just fit the bbq nicely as Canadian Tire didn't carry any small ones that would look good on this. If you look in the Q&A section, you will see a little more information about the cover. That alone will run you 49 plus taxs from Home Hardware, but worth it instead of having the oversized cover.

"Very good quality, easy to assemble.New ignition system that works excellent. We have a family of 3 and don't need anything larger as we don't entertain often. Read reviews doesn't heat well but works great for us. Sure it has less BTU's than larger ones but that is expected buying a smaller BBQ. I LIKE IT!!!!"

Good quality unit, poor heat

Date:May 4, 2011
"I have had this BBQ for about 6 weeks now. I have cooked about 7 times on it. The burner out put is not enough. It does cook well with no flairs ups, but you have to run the unit on high all the time just to try to sear the meat. Can only get get tempearture gauge to 600. Quality of workmanship is very good and I am pleased with everything except the heat. Payed good money should have had at least a 50000 btu in the unit."

Good quality BBQ but terrible manual & accessories

Date:May 4, 2011
"The BBQ looks great.
However:
(1) the manual is terrible. Its black and white and filled with useless pictures (objects in pictures are too dark to make out any detail or the relavent parts are too small to see how they are installed). I don't understand why they couldn't include a colour manual with decent pictures. Also, In one instance it states the wrong number of parts to be used for the step.
(2) it took me close to 3 hours to fully assemble the unit. one step requires 3 people to perform.
(3) it doesn't come with a bbq cover and the Canadian tire recommended cover looks horrible. Its big and bulky and defeats the purpose of buying a sleak attractive bbq.
(4) Once you buy it your stuck. I haven't tried using it yet but I fear that even if it has poor performing burners (as mentioned by others) I will be stuck. The unit is incredibly heavy and there is no way I would be able to return it after assembling it."

not enough heat

Date:May 1, 2011
"I checked a lot of BBQ, I wanted a good quality small BBQ. I finally drove 100 miles to a Canadian Tire that had one in stock. I enjoyed assembling the bbq. Good quality materials, solid, and very well packed in the box. I lit it and let it burn, the heat was very sloowly going up. I could not get the
heat to reach the "sear" portion. My wife loves the look of it. We cooked steaks on it, dessapointing
could not sear them properly. When cooking the cover down finally the temperature reach 550 open the cover, and the temperature drops a lot.
I like the BBQ style, but Coleman please put decent burners in the little BBQ. during the video of this BBQ we can hear the searing of the meat not on my " small space " Coleman no sound coming from the meat. Also I was looking for a Coleman cover for this BBQ when I bought it, not available ??? I was offered a Master Chief I am not sure how long I will keep it.
