Pursuit 80 Sit-in Kayak

Date:April 13, 2011
"I have owned 2 of these kayaks for over 2 years now. They were purchases on sale for about $200. With out a doubt, this is the best 200$ (x 2) I have ever spent .
The kayaks are 8 feet long, so they are easy to transport. I did not have to purchase any additional equipment to secure it to my truck. In fact I can fit both of them in the box of my truck if I put them on an angle and lay them face to face. .. I do not have a long box truck, it's a Dodge Dakota.
My friends and I, (some who have now purchased their own) use the kayaks on still water, like lakes, slow moving rivers and occasionally some faster currents (though I would not recommend this).
The kayaks are stable, many of my friends have little or no experience and have not even come close to tipping one.
The plastic moulded seat is surprisingly comfortable, even after a full day out on the water.
Also, I like that there is a place to put a water bottle.
The spray skirt doesn't help much, it tends to collect the droplets of water then drain them into the centre of my lap, so I don't use it.
Overall, this was a great purchase. It's well worth the money even at full price."

Pelican Pursuit 80 XE Kayak

Date:May 11, 2013
"I purchased this kayak last year. The selling feature for me were the weight and length. I am 5 feet tall. I toss the kayak into my Focus wagon and off I go. That's right, it fits inside my car. I pick up the kayak along with all the gear with one hand. Very stable and safe, you would have to work hard to roll this boat. One drawback is that it does not have foot pegs but I had them installed which has enhanced control and speed. I would recommend this kayak to anyone who does not want to invest a lot of money and wants to get out onto the water. I kayak rivers and small lakes."

Good Recreational Kayak

Date:March 27, 2013
"Bought this on sale @ $219! Great buy! Live near the ocean and went out and had a blast! So much fun!
Easy to carry and I'm a small woman. Fit right in the back of the van no problem.
It's going to be a great summer! Recommend for recreational paddlers.

great for beginners

"I have this kayak and the pelican sit on kayaks. With this kayak I felt comfortable enough to paddle across the lake and back. Its stable and I never was worried about tipping. Its small enough to strap on the roof of my van or even put in the back of the van with the seats down"

Good buy

Date:August 4, 2012
"Bought this on sale this spring for $210 and I'm very happy with this purchase. It's a great recreational kayak for calm water. Took it out on a rough lake and got completly soaked as the spray skirt collects water and runs it into the middle of your seat so I don't use it. It fits into my compact hatchback making it convenient for quick trips to the lake.
Like a previous reviewer said it is not recommended for people over 200 lbs. My friend whose approx. 210 capsized within minutes as it sat too deep in the water and water quickly ran into the boat. Though for me, at 155lbs, it is very stable and makes for a relaxing trip."

Good value for your money

Date:July 11, 2012
"Have owned this kayak for a month now, its great on lakes and slower moving rivers. Love the size, very easy to transport. However the skirt is useless, it actually brings more water in than it keeps out. If you are hitting rapids or lakes with waves, don't buy this kayak, but if you are looking something for smaller lakes, rivers and streams its perfect!"

Handy size

Date:September 9, 2011
"I love that this kayak actually fits IN my compact hatchback -- much easier than getting my canoe on and off the roof. Performance is about what you'd expect for the dimensions (i.e. not great, not fast, and quite a bit of side roll). I use it for quick trips down to the river for short solo paddles, so the convenience trumps the performance issues for me.
Not recommended for larger people (close to or over 200 lbs)."

Great for fun on the water!

Date:July 22, 2011
"We purchased 2 of these kayaks last week and so far they are great. They are small enough to fit in the back of my minivan and light enough for my 14 yr old daughter to carry herself!
As the other reviewer noted, they do fill with water if they tip and it is very difficult to bail out, so they would not be suitable for really big waves and rapids. They are very stable on the water and there were some fairly big waves from motor boats.
For recreational purpose, these kayaks are great!

Buyer should note!

Date:August 19, 2010
"The price of this boat adequately reflects what you'll end up getting in the way of a kayak. There is a reason most other recreational kayaks cost $500 and this one is half as expensive!
If you're looking for a play boat and don't care about storage space and performance, this is a great boat.
I have 2 concerns with this kayak however.
1. There is no bulkhead in this kayak. The two styrofoam pieces on either side of the seat DO NOT keep the boat floating if it fills with water, making it impossible to bail out. It remains neutrally buoyant about 6 inches below the waters surface. STAY CLOSE TO SHORE IF CONDITIONS ARE WAVY.
2. The spray skirts are a joke. The design of the skirt requires you to tighten the skirt into place around the cockpit combing...this would normally be fine, except that when you tighten the sprayskirt, the nylon material bunches around the bungee cord so that it no longer fits under the "lip" of the cockpit coaming. A small wave or a twist of the body will pop this sprayskirt off every time, nevermind the implosion when you flip the kayak upside down.
In conclusion, if you throw a couple of drybags full of air in the stern/rear of the kayak, it will float. I would also say save your money with the sprayskirts. If you have any experience kayaking and want to be able to truly "play" (ie. perform self rescues, eskimo roll, etc.) then spend the extra money on a better boat!
One thing I do like about this boat is that it is Canadian made, however, they have to improve all of their boat designs to really compete."
