"This is a good gun it is the standard rental at my local paintball place. It does the job well the hand grip is nice, accuracy is pretty average. Overall it's a good gun, but when played against other guns with hair triggers and such it's clearly outplayed a lot"

"If you are looking at getting your first paintball marker or one for casual use, this is the one to get. It is a breeze to field strip this marker right down and clean and oil it. This marker is very easily customized, the breech is easily accessible for cleaning, the threaded barrell makes for quick change and the rear sight is adjustable. An absolute gem."

"Excellent paintball gun, powerful, durable, and very accurate. I have fired at least 10000 paintballs from it and not one broke in the barrel. Lots of room to customize and improve if you want a fully automatic.
Wait until the kit goes on sale before you buy...(40% off)"

""I extremely recommend buying this paintball marker if you are just starting to play the game. Its semi-automatic so you dont have to cock it back after every shoot! I got this for Christmas and I'm extremely happy with it! Although, it would be better if the hopper could hold more than 200 rounds! 300 would be way better because you shoot it in no time. I also like al the different variations on how you can customize it. Mine looks like a M-16 with a Red Dot scope! (Purchased at Canadian Tire)"

"I have used the custom 98 for about 8 years now no problems at all vary well designed and shoots well perfect for those situations when you need to suppress the opposing team but all tho a good gun the BT 4 and X7 are better but this gun unlike the other tippmann guns has a ace up on the others buying and E-grip can cost you many hundreds of dollars this gun will never need an E-grip seeing as the body can be removed and the semi to auto pin can be removed for nothing this gun is just as good as the BT line and X lines and even better on your wallet think no E-grip just pull it apart put it back to gather and lock and load and you have a gun that fires the same and will fire 25 balls every few seconds sounds like a wicked deal to me :D"

Amazing Gun

"I heard from my friends to buy this gun to get into paintballing. Of course I went on their recommendation and bought one, and don't regret it one bit. Never cuts up balls, extremely accurate, especially with a custom barrel, nice weight to it.
So far I've shot over 20 000 rounds out of it and haven't had a single problem, i've dropped it a few times and it still performs just fine. A must have for the beginner paintballer like myself! :)"

Another quality product

"I went to my local CT location and picked up four of these kits for myself, and the grandchildren. We play pick-up games on my estate grounds and we have a wonderful time. Mantinence is a breeze and the performance is also top notch. I have read the other reviews and in my pre-buy research tried other markers in the same price-range. I can assure you that this Tippmann far userps any of its competetors in quality and customer service. Another graet product"

"this is a good gun it shoots true and it is strong also well made but there is a better gun for less and that is the BT-4 combat thay are mostly the same but the BT-4 combat is more upgradeble and is cheper i would buy that marker rather than the tippmann 98,butt if your just starting out i would buy the BT-4 combat besause it is more user frendly and i think it is just a beter gun. :D"

"The marker itself is good. I'd recommend a new barrel. The accessories included however are not worth the extra expense. Most organizations provide CA with thier field costs and even if you do us co2 a 20 oz tank would be a better investment. The mask is ok if you wanted to use if for an hour and never again.
You would do well to go to a real paintball proshop and get a better value for your money since this package is way over priced for the current market."

"This is a decent marker. My main marker is a tippman but if your going to spend this kind of money then I would highly recommend looking around and possibly visiting some specialty stores for better comparison.
These type of markers are good for playing sinerio or woodsball. They require alot of upgrades to be competitive in speedball and even then they will be slow.
Tippmann's are customizable so you have lots of options to make it look like a machine gun, sniper rifle etc.
The mask in this set is very poor quality and will fog up on you.
9oz of air will maybe get you through a bag of paintballs, maybe two if your lucky.
This marker is the old style and is now made over seas. Tippmann was famous for their ruggedness but that was based on american made products.
This marker is not the current style of the Tippmann 98. Since 2005 Tippmann has introduce an anti-chop (ACTS) device in their markers. These do not have those benefits."

"This is a great marker for beginners, very durable, it can receive multiple hits, can drop it on any surface, even drive over it (not wise though) and usually will not effect the performance of the marker. My recommendation is to use it for a year or so before upgrading to either an A-5 or X7.
The performance is great for sniping, or in close quarters; but not for constant running around."

"I have both the tippmann 'model 98' and the '98 custom' and i have to say that these guns are the best. I have put mine to the test:Fired in water, snow, rain, covered in dirt and then picked it up and it still fired. i even accidentally left it on top of my car and when i was driving it fell off at 80km/h and ti still shoots straight and everything! these guns are in no way field-strippable but that is a small price to pay for such awesome performance and durability. The new ACT (anti chop technology) works extremely well. I ran 30 000 balls through it so far and havent chopped one ball. Do not hesitate to buy this gun. You will never be dissapointed or be frustrated with a broken gun or ball in the carrel on the field again."
