Good for Sale Price / Not the best assembly

Date:June 10, 2013
"This bike at $300 (sale 50% off) is quite decent. I think it would be hard to find other bikes with these components at this price. I would not pay full price for it. Bike Assembly is not the best - bike installer needs to do a better job.
Seems like some people have complaints about the bike not functioning properly when the bought it. I suggest that you get it fine tune right away before leavign the store and doing any serious riding, or do it yourself if you know how to. Improperly assembled or tuned bike components may lead to premature failure (e.g derailers or brakes)
Before I even rode it, I did some minor adjustments; handle bars and front tire not lined perfectly - straighten that, brakes/shifers levers angles a little too high - adjusted them a little lower, front brakes had too much cable play - tighten the slack on the cable, rear derailers not sync with the gears shifters - adjusted that.
The minor adjustments are easy to do - using only 1 size allen key.
After the minor adjustment, took it for a spin and was very impressed with the overall feel of the bike. The Rapid fire shifters are responsive, so long as you fine tune the derailers. I still need to o fine tune the front derailers a little to get the front gears to shift better. The disk brakes could grab a little better, so looking into adjusting that. I like the front shocks - feels just right for me. Seat seems quite comfortable, not sure how I would feel on long rides yet.
I used to get shoulder and upper back soreness from riding my old mountain bike, but the 29ers ride a little higher in the front and kept my posture more upright and relaxed. I'm 5' 10", and this bike fits me well.
Will be doing more serious riding in the next while but so far no major issues."

A headache....

Date:May 27, 2013
"I bought this on sale, and it was terrible right out of the store. The front brakes would rub against the rotor, and after two rides the magnet that holds the brake pad in place broke while I was out and split in two, doubling how far the pad stuck out and leaving me stranded. Also the shifting was completely messed up. I brought it in and asked for a refund, they gave me a free tuneup.
My front rotor is warped. I told them before the first tuneup and it wasn't fixed. They just left a note that said it was unfixable... not happy! The shifting was fixed-ish.
This season I brought it out again and found the front rotor issue was causing me to lose too much power, so I took the front breaks off entirely. I think this issue was originally caused by the fact that the front forks have too much flex in them, so when you tighten the tire on it angles the breaks wrong and causes the rotor to become bent.
I would not recommend this bike at all.
It's pretty and big, those are the only things I like about it."

3rd year, no complaints

Date:May 13, 2013
"I bought one off the floor and it had a wobble in the wheel but got CT to replace it before purchase. I'm 5'8" but have the seat extended up high so I pedal with the balls of my feat, would raise the handlebars too if I could but can't so usually rest on the balls of my hand as opposed to the palm. Just my riding style but big guys might want to take note. Otherwise I got a good unit, smooth shifting, dependable brakes etc. If I plug it up with mud I wash and oil it, not a single problem to date. Oh, I bought a gel seat to ease out the bumps."

good value for the money

Date:January 24, 2013
"Solid bike, components could be better, but for the price competative. blew the bottom bracket out in 3 months, warranty. Immediately changed tires to small block 8, and as well the saddle and grips.
As previously mentioned low gearing is rediculously low.and top end could be improved. This year front fork is being replaced as the suntour fork is too flexible for my liking and no lock out."

You'll need to tune this bike before you ride it!

Date:August 23, 2012
"I was looking for a bike with disk brakes under $300 dollars. I soon discovered there was no such thing. Then this bike came into my life, on sale at half the normal price. I read the reviews and some other findings on the Internet and decided to pony up the cash and get the bike.
The bike has issues right out of the store. The tubes in the tires are of the low end (I heard another bike's tires explode as they where pumping it to the proper pressure), the shifting is horrible (especially the front), the frame doesn't lend well to placing on accessories (the bars/frame are too thick. Even those made my CCM didn't attached as planed. It takes some creative placement to make it work) and some parts where not assembled corrected (for me it was the back brakes and crank shaft. Replaced one of the crank shafts after two weeks of use. Along with having the ball bearing lose on the back wheel and very lose suspension in the front).
Once you address those issues at a bike shop with experienced mechanic (for me it was a local bike shop and MEC) the bike is a joy to ride. I did some adjustments myself but for a person that doesn't know how, it could run you from $60-$150.
When it comes to its design and application, this bike is a high end concept done on a shoe string budget. Would I recommend it. YES, even with the issues out of the store. Find me another disk brakes bike with this price (I'm speaking of the sale price. At the normal price it would be a PASS on this bike), you'll be hard pressed to find it.
Other notes on bike:
-normally $599.00 Sale Price: $299.00
-my back light, ulock and wire lock all attached to seat poll.
-had to tighten front wheel and seat quick releases.
-handle bars needed adjustment for my height. -thinking over changing the disk brake pads and disk. Not to say brakes are bad, I just want better performance.
-front suspension was tightened because I'm on the road a bit more then on the trails.
-tires wear quickly on the road. I see a change coming soon.
-I use this bike for getting around the city an the occasional trail. It's great in the dirt!
-I spent an extra $20 on fixing this bike.
-my star rating are for after I got the bike tuned up. Out of the store everything would be a 'three star' rating

Great Bargain on Sale

Date:August 17, 2012
"I would recommend buying this bike on sale, as it would be a great investment on a new bike. The bike is one of the cheapest dual disc brake bikes that I've seen available. The bike is also quite suitable for tall people, due to the extra large tires on this bike (29 inch). There may be some tube defects, so make sure that the tires are sturdy first. This can also take a variety of accessories, including a water bottle cage. It also features a front quick-release wheel."

Just average

Date:July 15, 2012
"The main reason I purchased this bike is to have a worry free bike that I can take on the trails and back and forth to work. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the bottom bracket. It was making a clicking sound whenever I pedalled. So I brought it in to have it replaced, but that was not possible given CT does not carry replacement parts.
I was given a replacement bike, even after two weeks of use, but this one has a problem with the back brake. The inside pad setting screw was cross threaded and probably now stripped. As I loosened the set screw, I could not turn the pad distance adjustment screw. When I finally did, it was not moving properly along the thread.
As for the general quality of the bicycle, the tires wear very quickly, the pedals do not give very good grip. I like the seat and handlebars, however the shifters feel cheap. The suspension fork adjusts well."

Bike has a great ride, but rough shifting!

Date:June 19, 2012
"I just returned this bike to the store after less than 24 hrs. I have been using a very average $200 bike I bought 13 years ago from CTC. I put an average of 1500 K a year on my old bike mostly dirt trails and rail lines, nothing too rough. It still shifts really well into ANY gear combo. The bike is much lighter than my old bike. That is a big plus. It handles well, I like the 29 inch tires on it. The disc brakes are much rougher braking than the v- brakes on my 13 year old bike, not impressed with them. But the real deal breaker here was the derailers. Especially the front derailer. After letting the tech tweak them (this guy was fantastic and REALLY knew what he was doing) I still get chain rub in certain gears or poor front derailments. The tech suggested I don't ever use 3 on the front derailer and 1 on the back derailer simultaneously because they would never work smoothly. He had done virtually everything he could do to adjust them and they would not work smoothly. Too bad! I liked the bike's ride, it has some good qualities but poor shifters(Front especially) for the price range! I was disappointed!"

Excellent Bike

Date:June 7, 2012
"I bought this bike on sale and think it is a great value. The builder in the store where i purchased the bike must be a better tweeker than some of the reviews I read. This bike has been great from the first ride till kmow. The bike shifts great, and rides nice.I am a large man bought bike to get into shape, I ride it every day and it performs great. There is no extreme biking in this bikes life so if that is what your looking for I cannot answer to that. On sale great deal."

Great Bike

Date:April 10, 2012
"I bought this bike on sale for $299.99. For that price you can't go wrong. You can expect to need a tune up. I called a local bike shop and they said it would take 2-3 weeks. I looked on youtube for gear adjusting and it showed me everything I needed to do. It took me about an hour and now this bike is perfect!
I'm a casual rider just looking to get outside and have a little fun. I have taken this bike on the road and easy trails. It is a little loud on the road because of the tread, but nothing I can't handle. The 29" tires make it a dream on trails. This is my first bike with disc brakes and I will never go back. A great bike for the average rider."

Good value on sale

Date:July 11, 2011
"Just had my first ride on this bike. Here's my first impressions...very good value. I love the large wheels. This thing will roll over any small road imperfections very gracefully. I'm going to have to get a wider saddle though! I'm a long time recumbent road cyclist and bike nerd (250 lbs and 5'11") and this is my first upright bike in perhaps 20 years. I got it on sale ($239.00) to go off road with my young kids.
Tires (29 x 2.25) were at only about 15 psi out of the store, but even with them at 60 psi(rated max 65) the ride is very cushy. They are loud rolling down the road due to the very knobby tread. Slow speed tight turns on asphalt will put you on the outer knobs and can feel unstable.
The front suspension is really soft, and the prelaod adjuster doesn't seem to make any appreciable difference. There is pogo pedalling hard uphill, but even 2/3 effort on flats doesn't elicit this. Pushing down forcefully on the handlebars, I can bottom the front fork out. Pros aren't going to buy Can. Tire bikes, so this is not a problem.
Straddling the cross bar off the saddle I JUST have clearance flat foot. My bike has a sticker that says it's best for folks 5'8" to 6 foot. I have a 30" inseam, and 42" xseam.
Stock gearing is in the LOW range. The granny gear is just ridiculous. My gravel driveway is a 10-13% grade, and even at very slow speed uphill the front tire was airborne half the way up. Cruising on flat asphalt, the hardest gear was like riding in the mid ring of most of my other road bike triples.
I note that I really hammered it uphill (in the hardest gear no less) and that set one pedal to clicking on each stroke, so I likely screwed up the bearings. I plan on replacing the pedals anyway, so no biggie, but the stock ones are NOT robust.
I really bought it for the 29" wheels and the dual disc brakes. I love discs. The back brake was decent, but the front is way soft. Anyone who is used to adjusting their own bikes will have no problems dialing this one in, but yes, the brakes and the drivetrain will need some tweaking to get rid of the squeaks, moans and rattles. In conclusion, This is maybe not so suitable for urban commuting (tire noise and low gearing) but would likely be great as a weekend off-road trail bike. Rail Trails and gravel would be no problem at all. On sale it's a real value, as long as you can do some basic bike maintenance."

Ride Like a King on Your 29er

Date:June 26, 2011
"I saw it in the pictures, it looked like a regular hard tail no rear suspension bike. This bike appeared to be the only one with 29 inches tires. I wondered why. I saw it in the store, wow, it looks big compared to the other bikes on the racks. Take it down and sit on it, flat tires as usual.
Regardless, you feel like you are riding a large horse. You take a commanding view of the road atop this bike. I had to have it. Take it home and out for its first spin. After not having ridden a bike in over a decade it was easy to get back into the saddle. The ratchet shifters take some getting used to; it seems like their operation is reversed. The disc brakes on both wheels are mechanical in operation and work well to stop my 250lbs weight. The front suspension is adjustable and in combination with the thick 29 inch tires they do well to isolate road irregularities.
Reading reviews and blogs regarding the 29ers and some people are harsh towards them. Weight wise they compare well to other full suspension bikes. Ride weight: they do take some steam to get up to speed but once your there it motors and requires little work to keep at speed. This bike is speedy and loud at speed while on pavement with the standard tires. I have yet to be off road but in the like distance i went down the back alley, im sure it will be great for the kind of riding i will do.
Overall, if you do street riding with occasional off roading, invest in a road tire and learn to change them or buy an extra set of rims.
Otherwise buy this bike knowing that your getting a bike worth hundreds more than the sale price your getting it for. You will love its capabilities and you can brag about how much better it is than your buddies 26er!"

Good bike, poor assembly

Date:April 18, 2011
"This is a good bike for city riding and some light off road riding. I'm not sure if I would trust the suspension system for hardcore downhill biking, as the suspension does give quite a bit even under the highest setting for preload. I'm a fairly aggressive rider, going on and off curbs at a decent speed and going onto grass or dirt if people ahead are too slow. (Most bikes would handle my type of riding for about 3 months before showing signs of wear.)
I also ride regardless of weather, weather sunny, rainy, or snowy. This is my first bike with disc brakes and it's fantastic! The all-terrain tires also help grip the snow a lot better than my road bikes.
The bike's meant for 5"9~6"3, if I remember correctly. I'm 5"10 and weight in about 190lbs with my backpack on with textbooks inside. The suspension doesn't sag too much, but just going down stairs or going off curbs will cause the suspension to go down about halfway.
Make sure that the frame size isn't too big for you. My 5"10 (and perhaps because I have short legs) is barely enough to clear the top tube.
My bike that I purchased was very poorly assembled. The gear shifters were too tight, the chain was not lubed, the front brake was offset. All simple fixes, but annoying to do none the less.
The main peeves about this bike is the inability to find a decent rack for it. I couldn't find any at my local Canadian Tire that'd fit it.
Even more importantly, even standard fenders wouldn't fit in nicely. I had to modify the ones that I had a bit before the oversized 29" tires wouldn't bite at it. The oversized tires and the suspension means that it handles minor bumps extremely well, though, resulting in a smooth ride for you.
All in all, it's a good bike. If you don't know how to do some simple modifications and fixes yourself, though, I recommend not buying this bike."
