"I read all of the reviews, which resulted in me buying this product.
The installation went smoothly with the exception of a gap between the wooden vertical bar and one of the legs.
We used the swivel bar option but when we went to plug in the 55 inch TV we couldn't access the plug on the back of the TV because of the metal frame on the stand. We lowered the unit but then we couldn't access the cable plug without sliding the TV over about 6 inches from the centre.
We're stuck with having an off centre TV. :("

Excellent Value!

"My wife was lucky enough to get this on sale when she was actually in the market for a new stand. When she pointed this one out in the CT Flyer, I was hesitant, but encouraged by the positive user reviews. Now that I know first hand after buying, assembling and setting up, I can say that this stand is still a good deal at full price. I have a similar style stand for my man cave home theatre. It assembled faster, but was more expensive. Assembly is only time consuming, but not at all difficult. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. As long as you put the bolts and washers in and leave them loose until you reach the step to tighten all connections, you'll end up with a very stable platform for TV and components. I also found the cable management on this unit to be better than most."

Great TV Stand

"Great quality television stand. Used for a 42 Inch flat screen. Was easy to assemble (easier with two people). Instructions were straight forward and easy to understand. Can either mount the tv or have it stand alone. I mounted mine and the swivel on the mount is fantastic. Can go great angles either way. Wood does not scratch easy. Stain stays on without chipping. I am extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend this stand to everyone."

"Very satisfied with this product. Using it as a TV stand with the TV mounted to the swivel arm. Didn't want to mount the TV to the wall, but wanted the swiveling option. This was the only one I found that would swivel 45 deg for a variety of viewing positions. Fits in our room well and is at the right height. Compliments the room well with a modern look. Highly recommend."

Great Value for the Whalen TV Stand

"We have just purchased our Second Whalen 3-in-1 TV Stand. The first stand, though it says that two people are prefered to assemble it, was quite easily assembled by myself. The TV mounts to the central stand quite easily and I really like that tinted glass shelves. The 45 degree swivel is ideal in cases of light reflection from windows. It is a very attractive piece of furniture with the wood accents. Overall, I have found it to have great quality and appearance."

"We got this unit on sale; about $145 out the door. It’s affordable, solid and has a sharp modern look to it. So far we’ve been very pleased with our purchase. The swivel is useful watching TV from the kitchen or playing video games from different angles.

An Allen key and a cheap little flat wrench were included but I preferred the use of a 1/4 in ratchet with a 4mm hex socket, level, 11mm box wrench, Philips driver and a level. With a little patience and a bit of time the av. Joe can build this"

Great Entertainment Unit

"I bought this unit on sale, and I am extremely pleased with my purchase so far! The stand looks absolutely amazing! It took about 2 hours to unpack and build the unit, so be prepared to spend a bit of time putting it together. Running the cords through the cord management system takes some time and patience, but really helps to enhance the appearance of the end product. The stand feels very strong and I'm hoping it lasts for a long time."

Best of this design to be found

"Just by chance this unit came up for sale the week I needed a new entertainment unit and though I've only had it 3 days it's been pretty perfect.

After looking at The Brick, Leon's, Staples, Home Depot, and even a few online-only stores I can safely say that the Whalen stand was the best of the lot. It was the only one of this design which was 50" wide, all others were 45" max. At least one other brand I found was identical at two stores where one said it could hold a 50" tv, the other store said only 45" tv. Not exactly a confidence builder.

If you're curious, and as I haven't found the info anywhere else, the shelves are 15', 16', and 17' deep from top to bottom. Also there's about 7 3/4" of usable space between the shelves. This really should be detailed in the dimensions as some of today's amps, mine for example, will only just barely fit into that space.

You'll need a wrench or pair of vice grips to hold the nuts when attaching the tv bracket. Just a note for those who don't have a lot of tools around the house.

A couple of small gripes....

Others have commented that the unit is unlevel. I haven't encountered that, but the vertical of the tv mounting bracket is definitely off. For some reason it's tipping the top of the tv back about 1cm off true. It doesn't really affect anything so far other than the look. And that could likely be fixed with the addition of a couple of washers.

The holes in the main bar for cable management could stand to be bigger. If you've got equipment that has the power cable hardwired in, like an ExpressVu box, the forward facing holes are only just barely big enough to get the 3-prong plug through. And if you've run any other cables first you can forget it."

Very Attractive, Very Solid, Great Price

"This is my first Whalen product. Things were really organized well and though a little complex, it was straight-forward to put together.
It looks great. The combination of wood and black glass make it suitable in either traditional or modern rooms.
The only unknown I have is durablitly as I've only recently assembled it. But it isn't flimsy at this point.
One down point: not made in Canada but sale price recently was $170 and too good to pass up."

"Purchased this on sale. It takes some time to put together and I would highly recommend using the internet video instructions. They were clear and easy. Stand took my new 55 inch with ease. Stand is well built and all holes lined up. 2 people make it much easier. I have looked at stands a couple hundred more dollars that were not any better built."

"Usually i do not waste time writing reviews but this tv stand deserves it. Very solid feel, looks professional with all the wires hidden in the spine, can rotate the tv left and right. With the long spine (a short one is also included) and the tv attached to it, it almost looks wall mounted, but it is a lot easier to move the stand for cleaning that way. Made in China but very good quality overall, the online video with the instructions cuts the assembling time by 50%. On sale at 150$ it is the best quality-price ratio I have found."

Decent TV Stand for the Money

"This TV stand is a good purchase, much more so if you can buy it on sale like I did. The stand is primarly manufactured from steel, the only wooden parts being the front legs and trim piece. The shelves are tinted glass, have plenty of space for several componets and well supported by a steel frame. The spine is well designed to hide most of your various A/V cables (as long as they are long enough).

Constructuion is very simple, only requiring simple tools, but it is somewhat time consuming.

The quality is good, not top notch though. The functionality is excellent though. Overall, very good product and I would recommend this TV stand."

"I purchased this a few weeks ago for my 55" LED TV. It had great assembly instructions with the parts all clearly marked. However, you must decide up front which of the three methods you want to use to mount your TV....you could change it later, but it would be a lot of trouble. I mounted mine on the "pole" so that the TV can swivel. The stand is sturdy even with the TV mounted and it looks great. I think it could accomodate a TV larger than 55"."

Decent Product

"Overall, I am happy with this purchase.

The spine contains holes so that you can run clean up the routing of cables. This gives a very and professional clean look to the installation. Once complete, the unit + TV looks great.

If the TV is mounted on the spine (instead of sitting on the top glass), the TV can be rotated left-right to allow easy access to the back of the TV.

I found that the TV is slightly un-level when mounted to the spine. Not a difficult fix, just somewhat cumbersome to remove the TV to adjust the back mount by a couple degrees. The setup cannot be leveled while the TV is on the stand.

I also found that the thread of the bent sheet metal holds VERY little torque before stripping. It took almost no effort before damaging threads. But the number of anchor points means this isn't a big issue.

Despite the small issues, the stand proved to be decent quality, functions as required, and looks great!

Again, very happy with my purchase."

Frustrating Experience!

"Did anybody put a level against the TV post?

I travelled 20 km's to CT to purchase this TV stand on sale. Once home I found that the post holes that attach to the shelves were drilled unevenly on both sides causing the TV to be crooked. Returned product to store but sold out.

Today I drove again to CT to pick up another stand... Bingo! Another product of a Friday afternoon. Holes incorrectly drilled.

As a regular shopper at CT I find this very frustrating. If the holes were drilled in the correct area I would rate this product/instructions 5 out of 5."
