Waste of money

Date:May 28, 2011
"I wish I had thought to read the reviews originaly.
I bought this a few years ago and again 2 years ago. I thought I might have gotten a lemon so tried again as I really like the idea. Its a complete waste of money unless you like having water coming out where it connects at the side of the house. Water just pours out. Yes I tried plumbers grease. My advice is stay away from this until they fix the inside connection."

Not Good value

Date:September 17, 2010
"I liked the product for ease of use after a difficult installation. I disliked the product because a major component failed (the hub) and I believe the hub could be made stronger by the manufacturer. The longevity of the product does not warrant the price.
I first purchased this side reel in 2004 and bot another one in 2010. The reason I purchased again considering the overall poor product rating I gave the reel was because I needed to place a new reel in the exact location of the old reel on the exterior of my brick house . Drilling holes to fit the mounting reel 4 yrs. ago was time consuming and expensive considering I went through 3 bits having to drill into the brick rather than the cement joints, as only one hole could be lined up with the joints. I finally successfully drilled the holes into the brick with a steel bit. I am relieved to report the new YARDWORKS side reel mounting hub holes lined up exactly with the old holes. Therefore no need to drill holes for a replacement.
Re leaks: Have never had any. Used plumber's grease on all O rings and a plumber's stick on all threads.
Re: Black roller in Mounting Hub. This is a minor component and its failure would not necessarily detract from the utility of the product. Both broke within 4 uses as the nipples sheared off.. Repaired by drilling out base of nipples, applying glue to threads on screw, screwing in where nipples were located and removing screw heads with a hack saw. No repairs required since.
RE: Mounting Hub. As advertised, removal and replacement of the reel for winter storage is a snap. However, after 4 years of use, the plastic in the hub broke exactly as portrayed in the picture supplied by by JMLalonde in the Questions and Answers section of this report.
User Manuals, Warranty and Parts. No user manual is made available with the hose reel. The warranty is 2 years. Since there is no user manual and no apparent markings or trademark names on the packaging or the reel, one can only run a search on the internet using YARDWORKS or Side Reel to see if parts are available. This will only lead to frustration. It would have been nice of Canadian Tire to say no parts are available for this reel through Cdn Tire however it is manufactured by (place name here) and parts may be available there."

Save Your Money - Leaks Alot

Date:April 14, 2009
"I've had this unit for just over a year now and it has leaked since day one. I have it mounted to the wall in my garage and it leaks constantly. It is very flimsy and I'm sure it's going to snap off the wall at some point. If your mounting it outside then you probably won't mind the constant dripping."

Avoid This

Date:April 12, 2009
"Bought this last spring.....did't last the summer. Leaks everywhere no matter how much teflon tape you use. and then it snapped in half just hanging with only a 50' hose on it.
Don't recommend at all"

broke before first use

Date:January 4, 2009
"Didn't even get to use it for the first time and the anchor portion that affixes to the wall broke on me. It was irrepairabel. I lost my receipt since it was lying around the house and it took me about a month or so to actually install it,. I basically set it out for recycling.
I now use a simple hose hanger that hasn't failed on me since.
One of these days I'll get enough courage to buy another one of these, but not quite yet."

Good Value

Date:December 3, 2007
"I purchased this when it was on sale for $20, not the best choice, but it seems to be holding up pretty well. The one bad thing would be that there is so much water leaking from the connector where the hose attaches to the reel. I tried to use teflon tape to stop the leak, and it worked for a while, but it just started leasking again when i unwound the hose. I took it back and got it exchanged, and i still have the same problem. Just a heads up to anyone who purchases this reel."
