Great Level, Great Price

Date:February 24, 2012
"Whether you work in framing, flooring, or finish carpentry, tile, brick or concrete, the trusty bubble level is hard to beat. Two of the most common styles are I-beam and box beam levels. Both come in a range of sizes, from 16" to 96". You'll find the 24" and 48" lengths most common on job sites because they're ideally suited for such a wide variety of light to medium duty work. Box beam levels seem to be more popular than I-beams among tradespeople because of their inherent strength, durability, lightweight, and high level of accuracy. The Stanley FatMax 48” Level has pretty well all the features that you'll want in a top quality level. This Stanley level is made of high strength aluminum and its 'beam' construction provides exceptional strength and stability enabling it to withstand the rigors of day-to-day job site use.
The precision machined surfaces on both sides of the level are dead flat. A continuous edge spans the entire length, so that when you’re striking a level line the pencil won't drop into the center vial. There’s no scale on this level. The ability to use it in place of a straightedge or tape measure would be a real timesaver. The usable long edge (in between the end caps) is just under 48”, which makes it a tad short when you need to lay out a full cut line across a sheet of plywood.
Two cushioned soft handles make it easy to carry and use the level, particularly when climbing a ladder or scaffolding, or working in hard to reach areas. The holes are large enough to easily accommodate a gloved hand.
On each end of the level are over-moulded rubber end caps that provide shock absorption in the event your drop the level. They protect the level body and the integrity of the vials. The two solid acrylic vertical vials, which are epoxy bonded in place, are 1-1/4" diameter, making them easy to read from a distance. Stanley guarantees them to be accurate to within .0005" per inch.
This Stanley Fatmax level is a durable, accurate level with a range of practical features. If you're looking for a good quality layout tool that will give years of reliable service, then the level is well worth considering."

Very accurate tool

Date:December 30, 2009
"Love this level, use it for work on a daily basis. Very good quality. Very accurate. Do agree however with a previous reviewer, that the rubber ends are a little smaller, would be better if they were the same width as the rest of the level. But over all quite pleased !"

won't ever by another brand of level!

Date:October 20, 2009
"Great level. Had issues with other brands which I noticed if dropped would never quite hold true any longer. My fault that I drop it however things happen when you're working. I bought this one and it looks pretty roughed up and still holds true. Happy to buy a Stanley!"

Pro Tool

Date:December 2, 2007
"I have had this level for about six months now and I love it. It gets used just about every day and it works great. It is accurate, lightweight and well machined. My only complaint is the rubber end caps are slightly narrower than the body and are less accurate for marking from corner to corner. They are, however, good bumpers in case you drop it or put it down a little too quickly.
All in all this is a great level. Better than my $85 mahogany and brass one which looks great but warped after a while.
