Possible Solution to Oil Leak

Date:November 4, 2011
"Anyone wondering if this is a toy, as I was, can be assured that it really can cut trees up to about 9" dia. I got about 2 hours of work out of two fully charged batteries, but probably the saw was running only half that time. Not amazing, but satisfactory. It's also vastly less dangerous than a "real" chainsaw.
My chain seemed to be getting little oil, while chain bar lubricant was soon leaking from every opening and seam on the saw. Using the parts chart in the Owner's Manual, I suspected the tube from the oil pump to the orfice behind the blade was not connected properly. I disassembled the saw, but separating the halves disconnects that hose. The following uses part numbering from the chart to save space.
To disasemble:
- remove 24, 3, 32, 10, 5, 28, 25, 16, 15, 19, all remaining #37 screws in 2, plus remove one more #37 screw from 1
- removing/replacing 16 without a circlip tool is tricky
- pull sides 1 and 2 apart
- 21 will come off 29, this hose connection may be the oiling problem
- remove 23 and 26 from 2
- remove 39 from 2 by tapping right end of shaft on outside of 2
To reassemble:
- clean out wood chips and oil
- seat 23 and 26 in 1
- grease 39
- ensure 6 and 30 are in place in 1
- connect 21 to 26 securely
- fit 2 to 1, pressing to seat 39
- replace #37 screws to 1 and 2
- replace 19, 15, 16, 25, 28, 3, 24, 5, 10, 32
- adjust 25

Nice saw

Date:September 28, 2011
"First time reviewer as I've never bought anything at Can Tire that was worth commenting about.
The saw works great. Lightweight, compact and surprisingly powerful. Battery lasts a long time (heard 1hr if in constant use, if sporatic, an entire afternoon i.e.) cut, move wood around to burn pit etc.)
Do not cut large trees (>1 foot) with it unless you have exp with larger saws - it does pinch easily and does not have the same power as a gas saw. But cutting logs from felled trees >1 foot is no prob (poplar, birch, balsam, pine, spruce - never tried on maple or harder woods).
Perfect for getting rid of small poplars on a property and for cutting small amounts of firewood. No gas, little noise.
Chain oil situation is not great - eats a lot because tank is small, but a small price to pay. Filling using any sort of jug or funnel will result in a mess every time. Best solution is to fill a SQUEEZE gatoraide or equiv bottle so you can add small amounts with each squeeze. Not a drop spilt.
Seems a hefy price for the battery (more than the saw) but you will notice the difference very quickly between Ni-Cd (Dewalt and other power tools) and Li - night and day.
Only had the saw a couple of weeks and no major probs - remember to keep the chain tight (see manual) and saw clean."

I took down a 30 foot tree with this badboy. . .

Date:July 18, 2011
"I had a rotten tree on my frontyard which was going to fall over my cars. I got the city's permission to remove the tree. I also got quotes, $2000 to cut down and remove a tree? NO way...
I went over to CT and bought this chainsaw and cut down that tree myself (it took a whole afternoon) but it was worth it.
PS, it doesn't come with enough oil, but you can just use any motor oil in it. I used a whole quart of motoroil to keep the thing lubed.
Good buy"

Excellent

Date:June 28, 2011
"This chainsaw is all it advertises to be. I've used it without any problems and love the features. Granted I already had purchased the weed trimmer last year, thus already had the battery and charger - so I didn't needed to overspend on it (plus it was on special). You should also note that I'm not a lumberjack, I use it to trim the trees in my backyard - it is ideally conceived for that purpose."

Great for small jobs

Date:July 21, 2009
"I got this because I hate the noise and smell of my gas chain saw. I've had the Yardworks saw for about a month and have used it on hardwood trees about 5 inches in diameter. It works fine but is not as fast as a gas saw. I don't mind that because I'm not in a hurry. Also, I don't need ear protectors and can work on Sunday morning without disturbing the neighbours. The battery lasts long enough to do any job that I've tackled with juice to spare.
A feature I like is that the saw is off and silent while I am planning my next cuts. A gas saw is always burbling away even when you're not cutting which is distracting. My plan for this saw is to use it as much as possible for small trees and limbing and use my gas saw when I have heavier work.
A feature I don't like is that it's easy to overfill the chain oil tank and the oil spills over the release switch but doesn't seem to hurt it. And when you are not using it, more chain oil drains out of this saw than others I've owned, even if I empty the tank after use.
You should be aware that there is no exchange warranty on this saw or other tools that use the 20V LI-Ion battery. You have to take them to a repair centre. I don't know about the durability of this product. Mine is ok but I know someone who had one that broke after about 20 minutes of use."

POWERFUL

Date:November 29, 2008
"This unit is great...Very powerful 20V 6Ah LITHIUM battery which works with this unit. I purchased the trimmer this summer which comes with the battery and charger for $199.99...its 60-2277 in case your interested! The Trimmer works great lasts for an hour on a single charge which is longer than my former gas unit could do on a full tank. Saw this unit and noticed the price was low and realized it didn't have a battery or charger but due to me already owning the trimmer with the battery and charger I was in luck! I also purchased the blower which is 60-3869...it lasts for over a half hour and performs great for so many tasks! This chainsaw is great because I can cut in my garage without the heavy fumes and obnoxius noise which is emitted by the gas units, not too mention I can keep the snow and rain off me by being able to use indoors.....You will be very pleased with this product and others related to this LITHIUM family which Canadian Tire sells under Yardworks brand. The battery on its own is $109 and the charger is $29"
