Total Garbage

Date:October 12, 2011
"Can't believe you have to use a AA battery in an AC device to make it work!! Replace the battery 3 times and the tiny plastic tab breaks. Can't read screen.
Switched to a Levington with a BUILT-IN LiOn RECHARGEABLE battery to keep the time when the power goes out... and the unit STILL functions when the battery dies, unlike this Intermatic one!
VERY DISAPPOINTED!
Just threw out 3 of them... waste of $100!

handy little timer

Date:March 29, 2009
"So far I have two of these. One to control my front lights, the 2nd to control the exhaust fan in my bathroom.
I've had these things for 3 years and am pretty happy with them. Yes the display is tiny, but doesn't really hinder it's operation.
I do agree with the other reviews that the programming is lost when the battery runs out, this is annoying, however, for me I've only had to change the batteries once (so that's about 1.5 - 2 years)"

Disappointed

Date:January 3, 2009
"I would not buy this unit again. As noted by other reviewers, the timer is hard to set, the screen is small with too much information, the buttons do not always trigger what they should, and the unit looses programming and function altogether when the battery runs out.
When you finally get it programmed (each time) it does function fine."

Avoid at all costs

Date:December 30, 2008
"I've had this unit for 3 years and although it does still work I am very unhappy with it. It's main downfall is that it requires a AAA battery to power the digital electronics which is fine, but when the battery dies you should still be able to operate the switch! No, the unit does not function unless it has a battery.
- Battery life in this unit is terrible.
- requires a AAA battery which doesn't last long. Once the battery dies the switch stops working.
- display is tiny and VERY hard to see.
- the actuator sounds broken when it comes on

Don't waste your money

Date:October 8, 2008
"I bought three of these units to program when I'm away, for a total cost of $120. Don't waste your money. first two lasted six months and the third lasted two years. They just won't manually switch on anymore, and the timer won't come on. The display is tiny and not lit so is very hard to read. don't say i didn't warn you..."

Absolutely the worst

Date:September 21, 2008
"Had it for 2 years and had problems with it from day 1. Confusing instructions, lost its programming, manual on/off only worked periodically. It finally died at some point when we were away for 2 weeks, leaving the lights on 24/7."

If only it lasted

Date:September 16, 2008
"Bought this unit 1 year ago. I bought this to turn on the outside lights, as I don't get home until after dark. It has some really neat features: you can set it to come on at 'dusk' and the timer adjusts the on time based on the sun set time. Really a smart idea. Came home one night and the lights were on... coudn't turn them off. Unit defective. 1 year warranty with the store, so I am out of luck. I wouldn't reccomend this as it looks ugly in the wall, needs a deep box, and the battery is a pain. There are other timers out there that have the same features, and last longer... yes they are more $$, but it comes down to the old saying... 'you get what you pay for'."

Great Idea ... Poor Hardware

Date:March 27, 2008
"As mentioned above, the unit has several flaws including the battery compartment and depth needed to install in an electrical box.
My unit lasted 1 month before quitiing. I had it replaced and the second has now lasted 6 months...

Lasted 4 years

Date:August 15, 2007
"Get this to control our outside lights. The settings and features work great. Its quite loud when it clicks on or off. The separate battery is a bit of a pain (why don't they use a built in rechargeable, its not like it doesn't have access to power). The unit completely failed after about 4 years and will no longer switch."

Unreliable Product - bad purchase

Date:August 1, 2007
"Over the last few years, I have purchased five of them. At about the 2 year mark, they start to fail due to "mechanical" problems. Intermac has acknowledged this, and replace 4 of them. Of the 4 they sent, 2 failed to work right out of the box. A better option is one made by UPM (ETW 350). Seems to be reliable at this point, and does not require a battery (has a built in one). They are also available at Canadian tire (in store as not listed on line). Item number is 52-9907-6.
This appears to be a much better choice and costs $11 less. Very similar features, does not require a battery, and does not have the same mechanical issues as the Intermac unit.
Save a few dollars, don't need to buy batteries, and it appears to be more reliable.
