Defective Foam Pad

Date:May 12, 2013
"I bought this based on the other reviews. Within 5 minutes of use the foam pad came unglued from the plastic part which attaches to the tool. I returned it, got a replacement and again the same thing happened. We finished polishing the car by hand. There was also alot of vibration. This is not what was expected from a Porter Cable tool. I returned it this morning."

Didn't think it would be so easy

Date:April 24, 2011
"All of the reviews I've read for this have been pretty much dead on. Great product even for the beginner and should last you a long time and get your excellent results if paired with the proper pads, polish/wax products and detailing procedure.
Make sure to pay attention to the wiring gauge recommendations so you don't burn your unit out, and use the provided washer when installing the backing plate. Don't bother using the provided polishing pad. There some retail shops and Canadian online shops that carry different sized pads.
Note - the CT product picture appears to be of the original Porter Cable 7424. The newer XP model performs the same, but has the user controls in a better position and a bigger power switch."

For a proper detail job, this one is idiotproof

Date:November 2, 2010
"While a rotary will yield faster results and attack severe spiderwebbing and marring far better, it requires an experienced operator to not burn the clearcoat.
The random orbital rotation on the PC takes most of the learning element out and makes it easy for anyone to get a well polished finish comparable if not better than your local detailing shop. It pays for itself after one use!
Paired up with the right polish (or compound for severe refinishing) and pads the 7 speeds are more than sufficient to remove most clearcoat marring.
Don't waste your money on those cheap Simoniz units."

The reviews are true.

"I bought this polisher based soley on the reviews on this forum. It is an expensive tool but well worth the money, it is powerful, easy to use, stable, and does an excellent job removing paint defects and applying/removing polish/wax. As stated by another review you will need to purchase the proper pads for your particular needs."

A must!

Date:March 25, 2008
"Even if you're an amateur automitive detailer, this product is a must! The effort to polish a car/truck or anything in that matter is a breaze with the Porter Cable. It's a dual-action polisher which is safer for the beginners compared to rotary polishers.
You will require to purchase accessories for it like pads and backer plates but well worth it!
I have used other cheaper brands of ROB and they do not even come close to this. The Porter Cable can go on for a long time without giving it a break! It's tough and will last for many many years!

Excellent Polisher

Date:October 22, 2007
"The Porter Cable polisher is the most well known car enthusiasts’ polisher out there in the market. All the car polishing forums on the internet recommend this polisher for beginners as well as seasoned car detailers. Instead of telling you how great this polisher is, I’ll focus on what market/audience this polisher targets.
Only purchase this polisher if you know you need to correct paint defects on your car. Paint defects include: oxidation, water marks, swirl marks and spider webs. If you just need a polisher to apply wax, then purchase one of the cheaper polishers (ie. Simoniz). You can use this polisher to apply wax, but the added value that this polisher brings (and the reason why its so expensive) is the ability to remove paint defects permanently without damaging your paint system.
If you do decide to purchase this tool to polish your car, you also have to purchase the proper polishing pads and polishes/compounds. Expect to spend at least another $100 - $150 in pads and polishing products. I have not been able found these pads in Canadian stores, so I had to order them online from the States. Do NOT use the polishing pad that comes with the Porter Cable – I ignored other people’s warnings and ended up adding more swirls on my car. To get a better understanding of what you need to detail your car, search the internet for car detailing forums.
As well, it takes a lot of time and effort to polish out paint defects. For example, I spent 8 hours this past weekend polishing and waxing my entire car. I did go kinda crazy, but expect at least several hours of work.
So all in all, this is a great product, but expect to purchase other products to properly polish your car."

Excellent

Date:August 27, 2007
"Like most Porter Cable products, this polisher performs up to its name. This is the perfect product for the car enthusiast who is seriously committed to the appearance of their automobile. Unlike variable speed polishers which are geared toward an experienced user, this random orbit produces professional results without the worry of permanent paint damage. However this product will not, nor is it designed to produce the same results that a variable speed polisher can achieve.
This polisher is best suited for the application of most car waxes, polishes and paint cleaners which have been designed for machine or hand use. This product can also be used as a random orbit sander by purchasing the optional backing pad and dust collection system. As a side note, this is also the same polisher that Meguiars car care products sells under its own brand."
