A workhorse

Date:May 13, 2013
"I purchased this from Canadian Tire a couple of winters ago and it is not only still working but still working as well as the day I bought it. It is a total workhorse and has helped keep my oil bill in check. Nice being warm in the winter and this heater does the job. When the weather is above the freezing point (but still cold) I don't even need to use oil, since I just keep it in the room with me. When the outside temp dips below zero, I still keep it on to warm the room I'm in but the oil furnace is on to keep the pipes in the rest of the house from freezing. My electric bill went up but not as much as it would have cost to heat my home to a comfortable level with oil. Would recommend this to a friend."

stay away from this product

"The first one broke within one year, the exchanged one broke again within one year. I had two of these and none of them was working more than a season. Now I am out of warranty.
Don't buy anything from this brand. A manufacturer who is unable to make a product that would last a year should not survive in the market."

A lot of heat!

Date:April 6, 2013
"I bought this to heat my addition to my mobile home-was impressed at how it warmed up the unit within 24 hours after being closed up for the winter. Quiet and had no trouble with odor. We had -14 with the windchill here the first night and my only other heat source was a small ceramic heater."

Worst heater purchase ever

Date:March 16, 2013
"I purchased this heater about 2 years ago and it has already stopped working. Would highly recommend a similar heater made by KAZ for Honeywell. Paid about the same $ for it and it is still going strong 5 years later"

Very Good Heater. Set it and go.

Date:March 11, 2013
"Over many years I have used long electric heaters, ceramic heaters, electric heaters with fans and finally this oil filled convection heater. The convection heat is the best of all. In spite of a few reviews mensioning an oil leak, I've had 2 that never leaked. I found the controls easy to understand and use. The heater is used to suppliment heat in my insulated sun room that is left open to the house but the sunroom has no heating from the furnace. Once in a while when the weather gets warmer or colder for a prolonged spell the heater is adjusted otherwise it is just left alone. My first oil filled heater lasted 3 years, which is less than I had hoped but that is longer than any of the other electric heaters that I,ve tried."

Canadian Tire replaced no problem

Date:February 11, 2013
"My local store replaced unit no problem even though I didn't have receipt. They looked up purchase using my bank card. With this one I will not use the OFF l,ll,lll dial to turn unit off but rather will unplug it. That dial does seem fine on this one. Got to give Canadian Tire credit for their ease of exchange."

Frapped after 3 months

Date:February 9, 2013
"Wattage dial got grindy and few days later smoked up (fuse?) and whole unit failed. What is it with these Chinese built heaters? Last year my Chinese built electric fireplace only lasted 6 months. Sad but I have to pull out my 25 year old American built heaters to fill in the gap. Avoid like the plague."

Terrible Product - broke within a year

Date:December 23, 2012
"This is a cheap heater for a reason.
It worked alright for one winter, and was no longer working by the start of the next winter. So in total, got about 5 months of use out of this terrible heater. And with a one-year warranty, they kind of know it's a terrible product. Don't buy this - spend more, get a better product. Also, when it's hot, it's actually quite difficult to move because the handle isn't very deep and puts the whole thing off balance when you move it."

Very Satisfied

Date:December 16, 2012
"Great affordable heater - we've had ours for 3 years and it works great for our drafty house. I wouldn't expect to use this as a primary heat source, but as a secondary "boost" it's perfect. (Looks nice too, and has no digital stuff to break down.)"

Works great, no leaks here

Date:December 12, 2012
"Bought this heater in early 2011 on sale. Based on other reviews maybe I was just lucky, but no leaks and it still works great nearly 2 years later. It's survived two moves and kids as well. It puts out a good amount of heat, and once you find your optimal setting you can pretty much leave it alone. It's completely silent other than sometimes making the odd 'gurgling' noises when you first turn it on, but only if it's been off for many hours."

Started to leak within three weeks.

Date:November 16, 2012
"This is actually the second review I wrote for this heater. The first, mysteriously, was never published, which makes me think the rating for this product is probably skewed high. Come to think of it, I wonder if reviews for any CT product is likely tweaked that way.
My heater started out well enough: quiet, and simple to operate. However, at the two week point, it started to squeal for a minute when the thermostat clicked on. Then, at the three week mark, I found oil on the floor, coming from a slow leak where one of the fins joins to the lower cross channel.
I had no problem returning the heater, and took my money to a different store, where I paid $30 more for a name-brand product."

Good for a small room

Date:November 15, 2012
"I just bought this last month. It seems to work great in a medium size room. I turn it on just before sleep and it gets toasty warm very quickly. There are two setting for the heat one automatic and the other one is manual. I prefer the manual because the automatic gets too warm. I am very pleased with this heater."

Works well

Date:November 3, 2012
"Waited a year before reviewing this. Purchased it last winter (2011), and I pulled it out about a month ago. Firstly, it's silent!!! and it works well for heating my small bedroom. It has two modes: an automated mode (that throws out too much heat for my small room) and a manual mode where you get to set the temperature (more on this later). I usually just turn it on at night while I'm sleeping otherwise it's off/unplugged. I put it in the automated mode for about 5 minutes to heat things up quickly and then switch it to the manual mode for the rest of the night. You don't actually set a temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, instead you just have an un-demarcated analog scale, so it may take a few tries to find the right temperature setting. (I don't recall the included instructions being very helpful, but eventually I was able to figure things out.) No leaks (knock on wood). Very happy so far!"

Doesn't last

Date:November 1, 2012
"I have bought & returned so many of these heaters. They just stop working! They throw off good heat when they work - mostly too much heat, but if this product lasted, it would be great. Not so much for around young children, as it gets very hot to the touch, but for an adult only home."

Excellent Heater

Date:October 25, 2012
"I purchased this heater because my landlord in Markham would not turn the heat on in our apartment. It is just fantastic and is still working where the other heaters some very costly and others were quite cheap all broke down after a few months use. I am going back to Canadian Tire to purchase 2 more since he still will not provide heat to our unit. A word of advice don't rent from anyone name Rye."

Great Heater

Date:October 24, 2012
"Picked up this heater today on sale for 48.95. I love it. Compared to my Ceramic Heater, there is no comparison. This heater throws off some serious heat. I saw a few negative reviews about reliability issues, but the postive reviews won me over. I am really glad I bought it. The other nice thing about this heater is the silence. Forced Air heaters are quite noisy but this Radiant Heater is totally silent."

Electrical Failure in 5 Hours!

Date:October 9, 2012
"Three days ago I bought the shiny BLACK GARRISON 110V OIL HEATER presently retailing at my local CTC for $89.99 even though some other CTC buyers of this unit indicated a much lower purchase price. This is the model with the tiny control screen, the timer that is confusing, and will not restart without reset in the event of a general power failure.
Pros: This is an attractive heater with casters that extend to decrease the risk of tip-over. Oil heaters of this type are usually more efficient and therefore less costly to operate. I liked the appearance of this model after I removed it from it's box until I read the 'user' manual.
Cons: I read the 'user manual' several times until I grasped how to set the heater. Then I read all of the user questions and answers on the CTC website for this Garrison model, and discovered many other users had troubles understanding the logic of the control features.
I plugged in the unit and since I have a device which monitors and reports voltage, watts and amps during use, I noted that it started quickly, heated my my room silently, and failed with just 5 hours of service. It simply died!
I returned this Garrison Electric Oil Heater shiny Black in color without the box to my CTC store and received a full refund without any questions.
Having now read all the other reviews which I should have done before I bought it, I likely would not have bought this unit even though it has features that I found attractive.
Given the poor logic of the controls and the fact it failed almost immediately which I learned has been reported by many others, I simply could not recommend purchase of this heater."

Too bad mine has a leak

Date:September 25, 2012
"I bought this one last year and was really impressed with it in a large room, worked nicely but then it started leaking. Im not sure if it can be still used or not, wish I could exchange it but I dont even have the bill anymore. I struggle to mark this as a not recommend because it did work well but shouldnt have leaked so soon after purchasing."

Its OK

Date:June 24, 2012
"This is for a 1200sq.ft cathedral ceilng office.which has not central heat.Works good in fall-not winter conditions.Much superior to those small fan /element heaters. The controls are clear and easy to use.Takes up almost no floorspace. Casters, so you can roll it away. This unit heats up so you can't take it for granted, like throwing clothes on it.When winter comes We will have this as backup in addition to a hard wired 220 v baseboard unit.A ceiling fan is a must with any of this straight convection heating."
