"This product in fact does work. It is very simple leaving you with the problem code only. You need to search google for the actual problem. Bright screen and very easy to use."

Nice simple unit.

Date:February 15, 2013
"This product paid for itself the day I bought it.....Of course I bought it on sale...even had a little surprise because my Canadian Tire didn't have stock of the item so they were substituting a package that included this item plus a continuity tester and a multimeter....bit of a windfall for me that day...anyhow, the code reader is simple but i'm not a mechanic....just want to see which direction to start looking to solve my CEL problems...this unit has done the trick for me on two different cars already...."

"Reads the codes, but will not connect to a PC. The PC can see a usb device, but the repair solutions software won't talk to it. Going to exchange or return the product."

Gets the job done

Date:April 23, 2012
"I just purchased this device at the unadvertised special price of $79.99 (I had a surprise at the cash!). Just plugged it in, it read the code in a few seconds. It was the infamous "EVAP Small Leak Detected" that we get when we forget to tighten the gas cap... A nuisance, since we need to go to the dealer to reset the code and pay for an unneeded "inspection" of the evaporation system. With this device I just cleared the code and everything went back to normal. The LCD display uses small icons and is easy to understand. It comes with a quick reference card that is enough to start using it. The PDF manual comes on a CD and is also available online. The web site is quite informative, and additional software can be installed on a computer, but it is not really necessary. The fault codes database is available online for free. This little unit does the job. You can get cheaper units on the web, but this one gets a 1-year warranty and it comes from our favourite store! The regular price of $149 is a bit over the top though."

A must have item!

Date:October 21, 2011
"Even if you don't know too much about cars, this is a great tool to have. Had a check engine light come on a few years ago and garage charged me a hundred bucks to check it out, more to do the repairs. I picked this up on sale one time and have used it since to both diagnose and help do things myself where possible and know when something is serious or a one time thing. Just had a misfiring cylinder the other day and looked up the code, replaced the one part and all is great. You can look up codes in the included book or on the internet, which I prefer.
Great item. As usual, on sale is even better!"

"Very simple scanner"

Date:July 22, 2011
"I am a certified tech and bought this little OBD2 scanner as it was on sale for $59.99. This is only one step up from a code flasher. If you buy this item and don't have a code book for OBD2 codes I will recommend getting one. This scanner only shows you the code numbers and no definitions. You will need to load the disk into your computer, download the program and register for the site in order to know what the codes mean.
If you don't have Internet access or a code book this tool will be no good to you. You can still erase historic codes and turn off your engine light but that is not wise if you don't know what they are for. The light will just come back on as you have not repaired the problem.(GET A CODE BOOK)
For all the techs out there, this is a very SIMPLE compact tool. I only wish it retrieved ABS, TRANS and SRS codes which it does not. Very good deal at $59.99 but not worth the regular $149.99"

Great little unit for the price

Date:May 7, 2010
"Bought this unit when it was on sale for half price. Well worth the money just to dump codes to find out what problems are, and clear codes. A garage will charge approx. 50 bucks to do this. 2 times and you have saved money. Easy to use, easy to handle, and easy to read."

Not just for mechanics

Date:January 21, 2010
"This is a great product for anyone who can plug in a cord. Follow the prompts and find out what is wrong with your vehicle. I find it extremely easy to use and it saves you big money. I had a check engine light come on and found out that it was just a loose gas cap saved me time and money bringing it to the shop."

OBD Car Reader

Date:December 29, 2009
"Great in giving an idea of what the problem could be and for turning off the engine light. Cheaper than having to go to a mechanic and pay for it to be checked every time. Plus, can share with friends and help them save too."

Money saver....

Date:December 9, 2008
"Bought this on sale last year... My car at the time liked to flash it's service engine soon light all the time for really silly things... Having this code reader made it a lot easier for me to know if it was actually serious or if my gas cap wasn't tight enough... The code reader could be a pain sometimes and just say reading error, but would eventually spit out a code... My car at the time was a 1997, my recent car is a 2000 and doesn't say reading error anymore maybe because of the cars computer sophistication..."

Works!

Date:September 20, 2008
"I had to buy this on the road trip and was torn between getting the one $50 more or this one. I chose the cheap route and it does what it needs. Reads the code erases. That's about all you can expect. Price is high for this type of unit in my eyes. It has paid for itself as most garages charge $50 minimum just to read/erase the code. So I've used it four times since."

A Little Too Simple

Date:August 29, 2008
"This reader is a liitle too simple for my liking but does work most of the time. Did have one instance where it failed to give me the correct code for the area causing the problem. It is small and compact so is easy to store just about anywhere. Would recommend those serious about purchasing to look at one of the more advance models like the 3130, it is double the price but has 10 times the features that make diagnosing a problem that much easier and enjoyable."

Great Buy

Date:December 10, 2007
"Having needed to have my car hooked up to a computer 2X in as many years, I decided to get this instead of paying $75-100 each time at the garage. Worked great and gave me my error code in seconds, so now I know what needs fixing without the $100 diagnostic."
